The Peterborough Lions Club, in conjunction with Lions clubs from around the world, is proud to present the International Peace Poster Contest. The theme this year is "A Celebration of Peace" and is open to youth between 11 and 13 years old. Each poster will be judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. The lucky winner will receive $5000.00 and a trip to a special award ceremony. Please contact us for contest rules.
The effective (public) speaking contest is run each year in early spring with contestants writing and presenting a speech on a topic of their choice (excluding politics or religion). Winners from our local level will progress to the District level and if successful move on to the Ontario finals.
The Local Lions and Lioness club host the annual Walk for Dog Guides with funds going to Lions Foundation of Canada. Participants campaign for pledges and enjoy a 5 to 10 km walk along the Rotary trail. Proceeds go to help purchase and train dogs for the blind, seeing impaired, hearing, physically challenged, special needs, autistic and diabetic persons.
Every June, the Peterborough Lions Club is proud to partner with Peterborough's Dragon Boat Festival to support breast cancer care in our community. The Lions run the refreshment booths for the many patrons attending this event. Another chance to give back to the community!
The Peterborough Lions Club is most fortunate to be one of the groups who volunteer at the Delta Bingo Hall on designated Saturday Nights. We have been a member of the Delta Bingo Association for over 20 years. It is our pleasure to be part of the list of volunteers who come out to service the people of Peterborough with the funds going back into the community.
The Peterborough Lions Club is known for many ongoing projects: We collect used eye glasses, hearing aids, and pop tabs. The glasses and hearing aids are refurbished, and graded. The glasses are sent to third world countries for those who need them. The hearing aids are sent to the Canadian Hearing Society for disbursement. The pop tabs are sent to Scouts Canada to help with their projects for youth.
T.G.I.F—Thank Goodness It’s Friday—on the second Friday of each month The Peterborough Lions host a supper at 7:00 p.m. Come and enjoy an excellent meal, fellowship and fun for only $15.00. The meal consists of a varied main course, dessert, tea and coffee (a bar is available).
April is convention month for the Lions of District A-3. The convention each year is held in Kingston at the Ambassador Hotel and is a great time for Lions and Lionesses to relax and enjoy the program. A time to meet and visit with friends and family, and be entertained.
