these unique people with disabilities.
Three times a year the Peterborough Lions Club works with the
C.M.H.A to sell passes and man the doors of the hockey arena and
help present trophies. We also at the same time host a spaghetti
supper. This is a great fundraiser for our club.
Once a year we have a charity raffle with the money going to
designated charity in our city. Watch for our members in the malls,
home shows, and in the community selling these tickets.
June is Dragon Boat Races time. We in partnership with the
Peterborough Lioness and East Peterborough Lions Club run
refreshment booths for the many patrons attending this event.
Another chance to give back to the community.
The Peterborough Lions Club is most fortunate to be one of
the groups who volunteer at the Kawartha Club Bingo Hall on
designated Saturday Nights. We have been a member of the Kawartha
Bingo Association for 20 years. It is our pleasure to be part of the
lists of volunteers who come out to service the people of
Peterborough with the funds going back into the community.
The Peterborough Lions Club is known for many ongoing
projects: We collect used eye glasses, hearing aids, and pop tabs.
The glasses and hearing aids are refurbished, and graded. The
glasses sent to third world countries for those who need them. The
hearing aids are sent to the Canadian Hearing Society for
disbursement. The pop tabs are sent to Scouts Canada to help with
their projects for youth.
We are involved in Vision and Hearing Screening in the
schools for youth Sr. Kindergarten to Grade 1. An opportunity to
test the quality of sight and hearing in our youth. A form is sent
home to the parent for permission to screen and report a report on
any failures are also sent to the parent for them to follow up. This
program has had a great success and many success stories.
Our District Lions Club are proud to host a Youth Exchange
Program. The youth can apply to go visit another participating
country for a youth exchange. We will host youth from other
countries in the summer months, giving them a chance to explore our
area with a host family. This also includes two weeks of camping and
touring.

April is convention month for the Lions of District A-3. In
2012 the Peterborough and Keene Lions will be hosting the
convention. The convention each year is held in Kingston at the
Ambassador Hotel and is a great time for Lions and Lioness to relax
and enjoy the program. A time to meet and visit with friends and
family, and be entertained.
